About Bahía Salinas Lighthouse
A cylindrical concrete tower, 12 meters in height, stands in ruins on the east side of Isla Carmen. It was formerly painted with red and white horizontal bands. The lighthouse is located on the east side of the entrance to a bay, serving the area near a former salt works. The salt works closed in 1984, and the lighthouse likely ceased operation around that time. While the site is accessible by boat, the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guided vessels into the bay that supported the salt works, a significant economic activity for the region.
