About Bahía la Ventana Lighthouse
Also known as: Bahía la Ventana (1 and 2) (Punta Gorda)
A white, square skeletal tower with a gallery stands 12 meters tall, with its light positioned 18 meters above the water. This active light emits a white flash every 6 seconds, visible for 12.7 nautical miles. The structure is located on the beach at the north end of Bahía la Ventana, approximately 4 km north of El Sargento. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed. An older, inactive tower of similar dimensions stands adjacent to the operational light.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is significant for local fishing boats and recreational vessels navigating the waters of Bahía la Ventana, helping to define safe passage along the northern end of the bay. The proximity of the inactive tower provides a visible connection to the area's navigational aid history.
