About Ando Hang East Breakwater Lighthouse
This concrete, octagonal cylindrical tower, standing 8 meters tall, was built in 1994 on the east breakwater of Ando harbor, near the southwestern end of Ando island. It features a red tower and emits a single red flash. The lighthouse has a focal height of 14 meters and a geographic range of 12 nautical miles. It guided vessels into the harbor for over two decades. The site remains open to the public, although the tower is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse ceased operations in 2020 due to a new bridge connecting Ando to Daemudo island, which altered traditional maritime routes.
