US Strikes Cargo Ship as Hormuz Attacks Reach Weekly High
AI illustrationUS forces struck a cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman last week while enforcing oil sanctions, according to gCaptain. The incident came as tanker attacks in the Strait of Hormuz hit their highest weekly count since the Iran-Israel war began, Baird Maritime reported.
Crew is hard to find. Shipping companies are now offering captains $100,000 a month to cross the strait, ABC News Australia reported on Saturday.
Five Indian sailors were rescued and brought ashore after a projectile struck their tanker, the Indian Embassy in Oman confirmed, The Hindu reported. The Maran Gas Mystras, struck as it exited the strait on 5 October, was among the week's other incidents. Hormuz transits dropped to their lowest point in over two months as operators reconsidered routes, Arab News reported. Traffic on the Cape route had already roughly doubled as tankers rerouted around Africa in the weeks before.
