UAE Closes All Beaches After Tanker Oil Spill in Gulf
AI illustrationAll beaches in Ras Al Khaimah are closed. The emirate shut them on October 24 with no reopening date, after oil from an offshore tanker spread toward the coast.
Officials confirmed a tanker leak was the source. Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah also shut stretches of their beaches as the slick extended through the Gulf. No timeline has been given for reopening.
The closures came amid weeks of vessel attacks in Gulf waters, including a tugboat struck by projectiles northeast of Khor Fakkan earlier in October.
