Sand Dredger Vivo Arya Sinks Off Malaysia, 19 Rescued
AI illustrationA sand dredger sank in Malaysian waters on October 25 about 25 nautical miles northwest of Pulau Pasir Hitam, near Kuala Kurau in Perak. All 19 crew were rescued.
The ship was the Vivo Arya. After it went down, passing ships reached the area and pulled most of the crew from a life raft. Tang Jifu was not among those first recovered. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency dispatched the patrol ship Perkasa 1238, which located Tang Jifu hours later and closed the search.
Two days after the Vivo Arya rescue concluded, an MMEA officer died in a patrol boat chase off Perlis.
