On June 27, 2026, a drone hit the starboard bridge wing of the M/T Kiku. The Panama-flagged tanker was transiting the Strait of Hormuz at the time, carrying more than 2 million barrels of Qatari crude oil. The attack happened at roughly 0830 UTC.
The bridge sustained damage. All crew members were safe. No oil spilled into the water.
Kiku was the second commercial tanker struck in the strait in about 48 hours. Two days earlier, the M/V Ever Lovely, sailing under the Singapore flag, had been hit by a drone while leaving the strait off the Omani coast. The Kiku strike broke a ceasefire that had held for roughly ten days.
The tanker continued operating after the hit. The weapon was a one-way attack drone, consistent with earlier strikes on commercial shipping in the region.
