Oliver Widger Departs Port Townsend on Solo World Sail
AI illustrationPort Townsend sent him off quietly. Oliver Widger cast off from Point Hudson Marina at 0700 on October 2, with Phoenix do Mar pointed toward a solo, non-stop circuit of the globe. The Port Townsend Sailing Association gathered for the sendoff.
Widger comes from Clackamas, Oregon. He has been sailing for two and a half years, according to the Peninsula Daily News, and made a solo run from Oregon to Hawaii before purchasing and refitting the 40-foot sloop in Port Townsend. The round-the-world voyage is expected to take eight to nine months.
The boat carries Starlink satellite communications, a reverse osmosis water maker, and more than a million calories of provisions, the Peninsula Daily News reported.
