MSC Sends Ships Back Through Suez Canal After Nearly Two Years

MSC started routing ships back through the Suez Canal on August 24. The detour is over.

For almost two years, MSC had sent its entire east-west container fleet the long way around Africa, avoiding the Red Sea while security conditions there pushed most container lines onto longer routes. Now the company is switching four services back through Egyptian waters: Tiger, Jade, Albatros, and Himalaya.

MSC Michel Cappellini went first. The ship departed Abu Kir on August 24 on the Jade service, westbound toward the Mediterranean. CMA CGM, Maersk, and Hapag-Lloyd had each already brought their own ships back before MSC joined them.
