On July 17, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said it struck a maritime control radar on Salama Rocks, a reef at the eastern mouth of the Strait of Hormuz near Oman's Musandam Peninsula. The claim came as part of the 13th wave of Iran's Operation Nasr 2 strikes.
Quoin Island sits at the narrows where the Strait of Hormuz opens into the Gulf of Oman. A radar on the rocks there monitors vessel movements through one of the world's most watched shipping lanes.
The same salvo also targeted a US air control radar in the Ghanam region of Oman's Musandam Governorate, according to Al Jazeera and Middle East Eye. The IRGC said both systems were destroyed. US Central Command has not confirmed or denied losses at either site.
Oman has not issued a formal statement. The country served as a backchannel between Washington and Tehran during the conflict, and Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan each issued sovereignty protests after earlier Iranian strikes while Muscat stayed silent.
ABC News reviewed satellite imagery and counted at least 10 US and allied radar sites struck across five countries since the conflict began. The two Oman-specific sites have not been independently confirmed by imagery.
