Bridges in Iran's southern Hormozgan province came down overnight on July 16 into the 17th. US warplanes struck road routes near Bandar Khamir, a port town at the edge of the strait, while a separate strike brought down a surveillance tower at Chabahar on the Gulf of Oman coast.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared an image of the collapsed tower, Gulf News reported. Iran's state media confirmed the Chabahar strikes but stopped short of acknowledging the tower fell. Al Jazeera reported seven people killed and cited Iran's foreign minister, who warned the war would spread.
Six nights running. The US campaign that began with hits on Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas in mid-July reached south and east to Chabahar, a port built partly with Indian funding that serves landlocked Afghanistan.
Cutting the bridge routes near Bandar Khamir limits overland access to coastal facilities at the edge of the Hormuz corridor, AP News reported.
