Background
Phú Quốc is the largest island in Vietnam. Previously organized as Phú Quốc City, it was Vietnam's first island municipality. The island has a total area of 575 km2 (222 sq mi) and a permanent population of approximately 179,480 people in 2020. On June 16, 2025, Phú Quốc became one of the 13 newly established and re-organized special administrative zones of Vietnam, the only city to do so. Later on July 1, "Secretary of the City Committee" Lê Quốc Anh was appointed to become the first "Secretary of the Party Committee of the special zone".Current Conditions
