Ukejima is a small harbor located in the Amami Islands of Japan. It serves the island's population and supports local commercial fishing activities.
Background
Ukejima is one of the Satsunan Islands of Japan, classed within the Amami archipelago between Kyūshū and Okinawa. The island has an area of 13.34 square kilometres (5.15 sq mi) and a population of approximately 200 people. Administratively it is part of the town of Setouchi in Kagoshima Prefecture. Much of the island is within the borders of the Amami Guntō Quasi-National Park. Economically, the islanders engage in commercial fishing and seasonal tourism.Current Conditions
