Background
Kuru oli vuonna 1867 perustettu entinen Suomen kunta, joka sijaitsi Pirkanmaan maakunnassa, noin 50 kilometriä Tampereelta pohjoiseen. Kunnan pinta-ala oli ennen lakkautusta 821,08 km², josta 103,49 km² oli vesistöjä. Kuru liitettiin Ylöjärveen 1.1.2009. Se ehti toimia kuntana 142 vuotta. Kunnassa asui ennen sen lakkauttamista 2 759 asukasta. Väestötiheys oli 3,84 asukasta/km². Kurun asukasluku kasvaa huomattavasti kesäaikaan ja sitä voidaankin pitää mökkikuntana.
