Zecherin Oberfeuer Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Zecherin Oberfeuer Lighthouse
This square skeletal concrete tower, painted white with a red border, stands 21 meters tall. Its lantern room is situated 23 meters above the water. The light emits three white flashes every 15 seconds, visible for 13.8 nautical miles. A large triangular daymark, point down, is carried by the structure. The Zecherin Oberfeuer is located on the Peenestrom, near the eastern end of the Zecheriner Bridge, which connects the mainland to Usedom island. While the site is open to the public, the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This light is indispensable for guiding southbound vessels through the narrowest section of the Peenestrom, preventing groundings and collisions in this critical waterway. Its position adjacent to the Zecheriner Bridge makes it a recognizable landmark for both maritime traffic and land travelers.
