About Yamausu Kō Lighthouse
This white, round cylindrical concrete tower measures 9.5 meters in height. Its light source is situated 12 meters above sea level. The lighthouse is at the end of the south breakwater for Yamausu, a fishing port located approximately 19.1 kilometers from Omu and southeast of Esashi. The lamp emits a green light with a characteristic of F.Fl G 6s, offering a range of 11 nautical miles. The tower is topped with a lantern and gallery. Public access is permitted to the grounds, but the tower interior is not open.
Why it matters: This navigation aid is important for local fishing vessels approaching and departing their home port, especially in periods of reduced visibility or darkness. It marks the extremity of the south breakwater, helping to avoid groundings and ensure safe passage into the harbor.
