Woody Point Lighthouse

Q red 6s🇨🇦Amherst Shore, CAOperational

Also known as: Woody Point (Barnes Point) (relocated to Amherst Shore)

A square pyramidal wood tower, standing 11 meters tall, was erected in 1911 at Woody Point on the New Brunswick side of Chignecto Bay. The structure, painted white with red trim, has a focal height of 20 meters. It projects a geographic range of 13 nautical miles. The light emits a quick red flash, intended for port marking. This lighthouse was developed as part of the Chignecto Ship Railway project, an endeavor never brought to completion. Since 2013, the lighthouse has been inactive, though the site remains open to the public while the tower is closed.

Why it matters: The lighthouse's construction is directly linked to the unfinished Chignecto Ship Railway project, representing a physical remnant of a significant 19th-century engineering ambition.
