A square pyramidal wood tower, painted white, stands 6.5 meters tall with a focal height of 11 meters. First established as a light station in 1861, the current structure was built in 1910 on Québec Head, the northeasternmost point of Wolfe Island. The lighthouse emits an occulting white light that flashes every 4 seconds and has a geographic range of 10.7 nautical miles. Although the original lantern has been removed, the tower remains operational. The nearest port, Clayton, is 4 kilometers away. The structure is owned by the Canadian Coast Guard.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks Québec Head, the northeastern point of Wolfe Island, aiding navigation through the channels of the Thousand Islands region. Its continued operation facilitates the movement of commercial and recreational traffic between Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River.
