Wakayama Kō South Breakwater Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Wakayama Kō South Breakwater Lighthouse
A red, cylindrical concrete tower stands 13 meters tall at the end of Wakayama's new south breakwater. This structure features a lantern and gallery, with its light positioned 13 meters above the water. The light emits a single red flash every seven seconds, visible for 11.3 nautical miles. The original location of this navigational aid was on a shorter pier, but it was either moved or rebuilt as the harbor infrastructure evolved. The tower itself is not open to the public.
Why it matters: This light marks the terminus of the new south breakwater, offering a clear reference for vessels entering Wakayama's port, particularly given the harbor's development.
