Wajima Kō Detached Breakwater Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Wajima Kō Detached Breakwater Lighthouse
This red, cylindrical concrete tower stands 9 meters tall, with its light positioned 15 meters above sea level. Activated in 2014, it replaced a previous white post light, taking over its JCG identification number. The lighthouse features a round concrete structure with a flared top, emitting a red flash every 6 seconds, visible for 11.9 nautical miles. Situated on a detached breakwater 0.4 kilometers from Wajima, the site is accessible by boat but the tower itself is closed to the public. It oversees the harbor waters near Wajima.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for the safe navigation of vessels entering and exiting Wajima harbor, a key port on the Noto Peninsula. Its strategic placement on a detached breakwater directly contributes to the protection of the harbor from rough seas.
