Wada Misaki Lighthouse

🇯🇵Kobe, JPOperational

Also known as: Wada Misaki (Wadamisaki) (relocated)

Constructed in 1884, the Wada Misaki Lighthouse is a hexagonal pyramidal tower made of cast iron and wood, standing 16 meters tall. It features a lantern, gallery, enclosed watch room, and a central cylinder, with a hexagonal wood keeper's cottage at its base. Originally located at the west end of Kōbe harbor, it guided vessels into the busy port. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1963 and relocated in 1964 to Suma Seaside Park, west of its original site. While the tower is closed to the public, the site is accessible.

Why it matters: Recognized as a historic monument, Wada Misaki Lighthouse is one of Japan's oldest surviving iron lighthouses and marked a critical approach to Kōbe harbor.
