About Vingleia Lighthouse
Vingleia Lighthouse, a cylindrical wooden tower 19 meters in height, was built and first lit in 1921. The structure combines a 2-1/2 story keeper's house with a square wooden tower, painted white with a red lantern room. It served the Norwegian Sea from a small island north of Mausund in Trøndelag. The light, visible for 11.6 nautical miles, exhibited two white, red, and green flashes every 8 seconds. While deactivated in 1985, the lighthouse has been renovated for accommodations and its site is open to the public, though the tower remains closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse received the Coastal Culture Award in November 2021 for its preservation and transformation into accommodations, highlighting its cultural value and community commitment to maritime heritage.
