About Vikeholmen Lighthouse
Also known as: Vikaholmen
Established in 1875, Vikeholmen Lighthouse is situated on a small islet near Karmøy, close to the port of Skudeneshavn. The tower is painted white and emits a white light. It stands on a short stone base, with a newer lantern and gallery positioned in front of the original structure. The lighthouse was built to assist maritime traffic navigating the often challenging coastal waters of the North Sea in the Rogaland region. Visitors can access the site to observe the coastal environment and the lighthouse's historical presence.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's directional white, red, or green light, with an occulting characteristic of one flash every six seconds, warns vessels of localized hazards or guides them along safe channels approaching Skudeneshavn.
