Unare Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Unare Lighthouse
The Unare lighthouse was built in 2008, standing as an octagonal fiberglass tower with red and white horizontal bands. It is situated at the mouth of the Río Unare, approximately 15 kilometers west of Puerto Píritu. This structure stands 12 meters tall, with its light positioned 15 meters above the water. The lighthouse emits a single white flash every 12.5 seconds, visible for nearly 12 nautical miles. Although the site is open to visitors, the tower itself is closed to the public. Its probable inactive status suggests changes in the area's navigational requirements or shipping patterns.
Why it matters: The lighthouse serves as a visual reference for local maritime traffic entering and exiting the Río Unare, an area characterized by dynamic currents and shifting sands.
