About Canal Interior Malecon del Este Lighthouse
Also known as: Canal Interior Malecon del Este (East Breakwater)
This cylindrical lighthouse, constructed from stone, stands 7 meters tall as a round rubblestone tower. It was situated on the eastern breakwater at the dredged entrance connecting the Lago de Maracaibo to the Gulf of Venezuela. The tower's role was to mark this critical passage for vessels. Its operational status concluded, and the Admiralty officially deleted it from their lists in 2018. The lighthouse's construction date and builders are not recorded.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marked the dredged channel into the Lago de Maracaibo, preventing vessels from grounding in shallower waters.
