Ulkokrunni Range Rear Lighthouse

Fl White 8s🇫🇮Ii, FIOperational

The Ulkokrunni Range Rear is a square pyramidal skeletal tower built in 1936 on the northwestern corner of Ulkokrunni island. Standing 30 meters tall, its focal height is 26.5 meters. The tower originally featured a white structure and emitted a white light, flashing once every 8 seconds. This navigational aid was deactivated in 1982, with its light being replaced by a mast light. The light apparatus was later relocated to a historic daybeacon between 1988 and 1990. Located about 20 kilometers from the mainland and 40 kilometers from Oulu, the island is a protected natural area where landings are prohibited without authorization.

Why it matters: The light's relocation reflects the evolving demands of maritime navigation and the adaptation of range requirements.
