About Ajos Breakwater Lighthouse
Also known as: #Ajos Breakwater (North End)
This octagonal cylindrical concrete tower, built in 1947, stands at the north end of a detached breakwater at Kemi, Finland. The lower half of the structure was painted red, with the upper half white. Its active service concluded in the early 1980s, and the lantern has since been removed. The tower stands 6 meters tall, and while the site is accessible by boat, the tower itself is closed to the public. It served as a navigational aid near the port of Veitsiluoto, located 3 kilometers away.
Why it matters: The light specifically marked the northern end of the detached breakwater, guiding commercial vessels serving the timber and paper industries into the harbor.
