About Uchiumi Kō West Breakwater Lighthouse
Also known as: Uchiumi Kō West Breakwater (?)
Erected in 1926, this lighthouse marks the extremity of the main breakwater for Uchiumi, a small harbor 0.1 km from the lighthouse. The lighthouse consists of a square concrete tower, 7.5 meters in height, adjoined to a 1-story concrete equipment building. It displayed a light characteristic of three white flashes (Fl.(3)W). The focal plane was at 50 meters, with a visibility range of 18.7 nautical miles. Service for this lighthouse ended in 2016, and it may have been dismantled. The location is accessible, but the tower is not open for entry.
Why it matters: The lighthouse served as a navigation aid for ships approaching and leaving the port of Uchiumi. Its presence connected visitors to the area's maritime background.
