Location & Light Range
About Uchinoura Kō Lighthouse
This 10-meter white concrete cylindrical post, built in 1935, serves as a navigational aid at the end of Uchinoura's detached breakwater. It features a single-story concrete equipment room and emits a green flashing light every four seconds. The lighthouse was originally located on the east breakwater before being moved to its current position. Its focal height reaches 15 meters, providing a geographic range of 11.9 nautical miles. While the site is accessible, the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: Uchinoura Kō marks the end of the detached breakwater, preventing vessels from striking this harbor infrastructure and guiding ships entering and exiting the port.
