About Tylön Lighthouse
Also known as: Tylön (Tylö, Tylösand)
The Tylön Lighthouse, built in 1870, is an octagonal cast iron tower standing 13 meters tall and painted red. It is situated on Tylön island, approximately 10 kilometers west of Halmstad, and lies within a nature reserve established in 1927. The lighthouse ceased operations in 1968, succeeded by the offshore Tylögrund light. By 2008, the structure was in poor condition, but it underwent a full restoration in 2011, during which it was repainted its historic red color. While the tower is closed to the public, the surrounding island site is accessible by boat.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is an early design by Gustav von Heidenstam and represents 19th-century cast iron tower construction, historically marking a key point off the Tylösand cape near Halmstad.
