About Triple Islands Lighthouse Lighthouse
Construction of the Triple Islands Lighthouse was completed in 1920. The station consists of a white octagonal tower attached to a concrete structure that houses keepers' quarters and machinery. Its focal height reaches 28 meters above sea level, providing a geographic range of 16 nautical miles. The light emits two white flashes every 9 seconds. Canadian Coast Guard personnel staff the station on a rotating basis.
Why it matters: This light station was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1974. Between 1939 and 1970, it participated in an oceanographic program, collecting daily coastal water temperature and salinity measurements.
