Location & Light Range
About Trial Islands Lighthouse
The Trial Islands Lighthouse is a white, cylindrical tower built in 1970, standing 13 meters tall. Its lantern, painted red, sits atop the white structure. The light, with a focal height of 28 meters, emits a single green flash every 5 seconds and has a geographic range of 14.9 nautical miles. This lighthouse is situated on the south end of Trial Island, off Gonzales Point near Victoria, British Columbia. Government plans to remove staffing in 2009 were reversed the following year, ensuring its continued operation.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns vessels of the hazardous Trial Island and surrounding rocky shoals, guiding them into Victoria's Inner Harbour and the eastern approaches of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
