About Trelleborg Ostmole Lighthouse
The Trelleborg Ostmole lighthouse is a tapered octagonal cast iron tower that was built and first lit in 1897. Standing 15.5 meters tall, it is painted white with a single narrow black horizontal band. This structure served to mark the harbor entrance on the Trelleborg waterfront. Its operational life ended in 1958. The lighthouse was removed for storage in October 2007 and returned to the waterfront in July 2010, where it now stands at the end of the main ferry pier. While the site is accessible, the tower itself remains closed to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse represents Trelleborg's maritime history and the evolution of its harbor, with its relocation highlighting community efforts to preserve heritage.
