Trelleborg Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Trelleborg Lighthouse
Built in 1930, Trelleborg Lighthouse is a 14-meter cylindrical cast iron tower featuring black and white horizontal bands. The tower is mounted on a tapered granite caisson. It was first lit in the same year it was constructed, serving the Baltic Sea south of the Trelleborg harbor entrance. The lighthouse is located 0.5 kilometers from the nearest port. It has been inactive as a light source since 2013 but continues to function as a racon station. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is notable as the first caisson lighthouse built in Sweden, replacing a lightship and representing an advancement in navigational aids. Its position guides vessels into Trelleborg harbor.
