Tomiiso Kō Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Tomiiso Kō Lighthouse
The Tomiiso Kō lighthouse was established in 1964 as a white, cylindrical concrete tower standing 10 meters tall. It is positioned at the end of the main breakwater for Tomiiso, a fishing port located about 12 kilometers southwest of Cape Sōya. The structure features a lantern and gallery and emits a green flashing light every 6 seconds. This light is visible for over 11 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is indispensable for fishing vessels entering Tomiiso port, providing a clear signal for navigating the breakwater, particularly in poor visibility or at night.
