Teuchi Kō Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Teuchi Kō Lighthouse
This white, cylindrical concrete tower stands 11 meters high on a short breakwater at the southeastern tip of Shimo-Koshikijima. Its focal plane reaches 17 meters above sea level, emitting a green flash every 6 seconds. The structure features a flared top and is attached to a small equipment shelter. Located at the entrance to Teuchi harbor, it guides vessels into Satsumasendai's waters. The site is open to visitors, although the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is essential for fishing boats and other small vessels entering Teuchi harbor, preventing groundings and collisions at the narrow entrance.
