Tazones Lighthouse

Fl White 7.5s🇪🇸Villaviciosa, ESOperational

Also known as: Tazones (Punta del Olivo)

Constructed in 1864, this lighthouse stands on a headland 9 kilometers northeast of Villaviciosa. The cylindrical stone tower, standing 11 meters high, was rebuilt in 1945. Its lantern emits a single white flash every 7.5 seconds, visible for over 27 nautical miles. The structure consists of an octagonal stone tower with a lantern and gallery, attached to a two-story keeper's house. The site is accessible to the public, but the tower remains closed. In 2007, the lighthouse was transferred to a local entity with plans for a cultural center, which have not been realized.

Why it matters: The lighthouse marks a headland between the ports of Villaviciosa and Gijón. Its distinctive stone tower integrated with the keeper's house provides a unique architectural character.
