Tanjung Telan Lighthouse

Tanjung Telan lighthouse, operational since an unrecorded date, is a square skeletal tower painted white. It stands 20 meters tall, with its focal plane at 12 meters above sea level. The tower is supported by piles and situated on a platform, designed for its estuarial environment. It emits a red flash every 5 seconds, with a geographic range of 11 nautical miles. The site is accessible by boat, though the tower itself is closed to the public. It is located near Banjarmasin, approximately 2.5 kilometers from the nearest port.

Why it matters: This lighthouse's red flash every five seconds warns vessels of the river's west bank, aiding navigation near the river mouth and helping to prevent groundings in the delta's shallow or shifting waters. Its construction on piles is adapted to its estuarial setting.
