About Tanjung Membatu Lighthouse
Also known as: Tanjung Membatu (Bagahak)
The Tanjung Membatu lighthouse stands as an 11-meter round cylindrical fiberglass tower featuring red and white horizontal bands. It emits a single white flash every 5 seconds from a focal height of 70 meters, with a geographic range of 21.4 nautical miles. This current structure replaced an earlier 11-meter square pyramidal steel skeletal tower that has since been demolished. The lighthouse is situated on a bluff approximately 1.6 kilometers from the nearest port, Lahad Datu, in Sabah. Its operational status is confirmed, guiding vessels along this stretch of the coast.
Why it matters: Established in 1957, this lighthouse assists mariners navigating the waters east of Lahad Datu, a significant port in Sabah, by warning them of the bluff.
