About Tananger Lighthouse
Built in 1890, this concrete lighthouse stands 3 meters tall and is painted white with a red roof. Its lantern is mounted on a concrete pad. The focal height of the light is 14 meters. It emits three-phase occulting white, green, and red light on a 10-second cycle, visible for 11.6 nautical miles. Located on the east side of the entrance to the harbor of Tananger, it is situated close to the pilot station in Sola, Rogaland. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse provides critical navigational guidance for vessels entering and exiting Tananger Harbor, a significant port for Norway's fishing and offshore sectors. Its directional light assists ships in avoiding hazards at the harbor entrance.
