About Taketoyo Lighthouse
The Taketoyo lighthouse, built in 1941, is a 10-meter white concrete post situated at the extremity of the southern breakwater pier. It rises from a hexagonal, single-story concrete equipment room. This navigational aid emits an isophase green light on a 6-second cycle, visible for 11 nautical miles. The lighthouse is located on the west side of Kinuura Kō, marking the entrance to Taketoyo's older harbor. For over 80 years, it has guided vessels into these sheltered coastal waters.
Why it matters: This light ensures safe navigation into Kinuura Kō, supporting the region's maritime economy and daily activities by marking the precise harbor entrance.
