About Taitosaki Lighthouse
This lighthouse stands on a 58-meter high cliff on the east coast of Honshu. The white, octagonal masonry tower measures 72 meters in height, with the light positioned at the same elevation. It emits a white flash visible for 22 nautical miles. Originally a manned station, it is now automated. The current structure is the second lighthouse at this site; the first was relocated inland due to coastal erosion.
Why it matters: The first lighthouse at this location was moved 100 meters inland from its original coastal position to prevent collapse from erosion.
