Sungai Barito Outer Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Sungai Barito Outer Lighthouse
This navigational aid features a square skeletal tower standing 20 meters tall, mounted on a pile-supported pier. Adjacent to the tower is a building, likely a pilot station, serving vessels near the mouth of the Barito River. The original lightship station was established in 1901. Although operational records indicate it was deactivated in 2013, the site remains open to visitors by boat. The tower itself, however, is closed to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marked a key navigational point for vessels entering and exiting the Barito River, assisting traffic bound for Banjarmasin.
