About Sundholmen Lighthouse
Established in 1909, this metal, octagonal lantern stood 4 meters tall on an island approximately 500 meters northwest of the Havnespynten light. Originally supported by black piles, the structure was painted white with a red roof. The focal height of its green, flashing light was 5.5 meters, offering a geographic range of 8.6 nautical miles. The light characteristic was an isophase green flash every 2 seconds. By 2022, the light was mounted on a post, and the station became inactive, with potential removal following. While the site remains open for visits by boat, the tower is closed to the public.
Why it matters: For over a century, Sundholmen served as part of a local system of navigational aids, assisting vessels in navigating the waters near Grimstad.
