Østre Tangflu Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Østre Tangflu Lighthouse
Østre Tangflu is a hexagonal concrete and fiberglass tower, first lit in 2009. It stands 9 meters high with its light positioned 19 meters above sea level. The tower is white, featuring two narrow black horizontal bands and a red top. This modern navigational aid replaced an earlier light, enhancing safety for vessels approaching the south end of Oslo harbor. Its light characteristics are an occulting white, red, or green signal on a 6-second cycle, indicating direction of approach. The lighthouse is situated approximately 1.2 kilometers northeast of the former Nesodden light.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for the safe passage of vessels into the southern Oslo harbor, a significant shipping lane for Norway's capital. Its precise directional light aids commercial and recreational traffic navigating the fjord entrance.
