About Storskjer Lighthouse
Also known as: #Storskjer
The Storskjer Lighthouse was a square wooden tower standing 8.5 meters tall, situated on a skerry about 1 kilometer northwest of Skjeljanger. It featured a white body, a red lantern roof, and was supported by four black piles. The light emitted an isophase green flash every 4 seconds from a focal height of 8 meters, with a geographic range of 9.7 nautical miles. The lighthouse was decommissioned and removed in 2022. While the original tower is gone, the site remains accessible by sea, and a modern light on a post continues to mark the channel.
Why it matters: This lighthouse was essential for safe passage through the channel northwest of Skjeljanger, warning vessels of the waterway's eastern boundary.
