Stora Fjäderägg Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Stora Fjäderägg Lighthouse
A cylindrical stone tower standing 13 meters tall, Stora Fjäderägg lighthouse is painted white and topped with a lantern and gallery. The current structure was rebuilt in 1921, following an earlier tower constructed in 1914. A light was first established on the site in 1851, originating from a keeper's cottage. The lighthouse's operational period concluded in 2008 when its light failed and was subsequently deactivated. It is situated on a remote island at the northeastern end of the Holmöarna archipelago, approximately 7 kilometers east of Holmön.
Why it matters: The lighthouse historically marked a key point for maritime traffic in the Holmöarna archipelago. Its site now serves as a bird banding station and a youth hostel.
