About Stavseng Lighthouse
Also known as: Stavseng (Range Rear)
Built in 1874, Stavseng Lighthouse is a white, cylindrical wooden tower standing 17 meters tall. It features a red lantern roof and rises directly from a 1-1/2 story keeper's house. The focal height of the light is 26 meters, and it projects a white, red, or green light with two flashes every 8 seconds. Located on the south coast of Tåtøy, an island at the mouth of Kragerøfjord near Kragerø, its geographic range is 14.5 nautical miles. The lighthouse was automated in 1968.
Why it matters: Stavseng formerly served as the rear range light in conjunction with Strømtangen lighthouse to guide vessels through Kragerøfjord. It was listed as a protected site in 1997.
