Sparkeltaren Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Sparkeltaren Lighthouse
Sparkeltaren is an 11-meter octagonal tower built in 2008, supporting a lantern structure on tripod piles. The lighthouse is located in the Oldersund, approximately 7.4 kilometers from Dyrstad and about 700 meters off the Kalvåg waterfront. Its focal height is 6 meters, and it emits a white, red, and green light with two occultations every 8 seconds. The station was initially established in 1931, with the current structure replacing an earlier aid to navigation. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's directional light, changing colors to guide vessels through the Oldersund's complexities, is essential for preventing groundings and ensuring safe passage for local maritime traffic.
