About Soulanges Canal Upper Entrance Range Rear Lighthouse
This cast iron tower, built and first lit in 1902, stands 11 meters tall and is painted white with a black lantern roof. It served as the rear range light for the Soulanges Canal's upper entrance. Its operational service concluded in 1960 when the canal closed following the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway. After a period of disuse, the tower has been restored. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: As the rear component of a range light system, this structure was essential for vessels entering the Soulanges Canal. Today, its restored condition makes it a historical landmark within a public campground.
